Getting Started
SCARS is a tense, atmospheric survival horror experience set in a brutalist concrete bunker. The narrative focuses on a squad of soldiers trapped in an underground facility overrun by a relentless, mindless swarm. Your objective is simple yet desperate: survive the initial breach, secure the perimeter, and extract the wounded. The game opens with a chaotic firefight, so your first priority is to find a safe vantage point. Listen for the distinctive sound of the swarm’s movement before they appear. Manage your limited supplies wisely; ammunition and medkits are scarce.
If you encounter a teammate in distress, prioritize helping them, as the game mechanics reward cooperation, though the environment is unforgiving. The bunker’s layout is dark and claustrophobic, with narrow corridors and heavy blast doors that provide essential cover. Always check corners before moving forward.
Pro Tips
The swarm in SCARS is persistent and adaptive. They will often try to flank your position or breach doors you haven't sealed. Do not simply run away; use the environment to your advantage. Blast doors are your best friends against swarms—always seal them if you hear a large group approaching. However, be careful not to seal yourself in without a viable escape route. Crafting is essential, as you can fuse basic materials found in vents to create flashbangs or simple barricades. Keep your health topped up with any medical supplies you find; dying early ruins the run.
Additionally, the game features a dynamic lighting system; turning off lights in certain areas can hide you from visual detection, though this may make it harder to spot enemies. Always keep your weapon aimed forward and listen for footsteps above the ambient noise.
Controls
SCARS utilizes standard controls designed for accessibility and responsiveness. WASD handles movement, while RMB (Right Mouse Button) is used for aiming and shooting. LMB (Left Mouse Button) fires your primary weapon. Use E to interact with doors, vents, and objects. F initiates a melee attack, useful for close-range defense. TAB opens the radial menu, allowing you to switch between weapons or use items. ESC brings up the pause menu or map. You can also use F1-F4 to toggle different layers of the UI, such as the minimap or inventory.
