How to Play Prism Runner
Controls
Change lane with A/D or the left/right arrow keys, jump with W, the up arrow or Space, and shift colour with S, the down arrow or Shift. On a phone or tablet, swipe left or right for lanes, swipe up to jump, swipe down to shift colour — or use the four buttons along the bottom.
Tips
- Colour is not decoration. A gate only lets you through when your prism matches it, so read the gate's colour before you worry about which lane it is in — shifting colour is instant, changing lane is not.
- The three obstacle types want three different answers. Low amber blocks are jumped. Grey walls are avoided by lane. Blue and magenta gates are passed by colour. Learn to tell them apart at a glance or you will answer the wrong one.
- Shift colour early, not late. There is nothing to lose by matching a gate at a distance, and nothing to gain by leaving it to the last stride.
- Jump early enough to be at the top of the arc when the block arrives. Jumping at the last moment gets you off the ground but still inside the block.
- Shards are worth 25 points each and they cluster in runs. If a run of them sits in your lane, take it — but never cross into a wall to get one.
- Speed climbs on its own, and it climbs faster than it feels. Around stage four the road that looked generous at the start is barely a lane wide in real time, so if you have been surviving on late reactions, start reacting earlier than you think you need to.
- Stage changes every 22 seconds. If you are still alive when the counter ticks over, that is the moment to tighten up rather than relax.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Prism Runner free to play?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser and needs no signup, download or install.
Can I play it on a mobile?
Yes. Swipe left and right to change lane, swipe up to jump and swipe down to shift colour, or tap the on-screen buttons. The road and controls reflow to fit both portrait and landscape.
How long does a run last?
Most runs end inside the first minute, and good ones run past the two-minute mark. Speed and obstacle density both climb continuously, so a run only ends when you mistime something. Your best score is stored on your device.
What is the prism colour for?
Two of the three obstacle types are colour gates, lit cyan or magenta. You can only pass a gate when your own prism is the same colour, so the game is really a two-lane puzzle laid over a three-lane runner: you are always choosing when to spend a moment on colour instead of position.
Who made Prism Runner?
It is an original game developed in-house for 8204.me. The road, the gates and every sound are generated procedurally in code — no third-party assets are used.
